These Japanese scientists have found that odorous compounds zaishu responsible for halitosis or bad breath promote the development of pure liver cells from stem cells of the human dental pulp. In their study published in the Feb. 27 edition zaishu of the Journal of Breath Research, they show how the hydrogen sulfide (H2S) increases the ability of adult stem cells to differentiate into hepatic cells by a reliable source for therapy liver cell.
This is the first time that liver cells are produced from human dental pulp, and many with an impressive level of purity. "This high purity involves less nonviable cells that would differentiate into other cell types or remain in a state of stem cells. The study even suggests that patients undergoing transplantation of liver cells have a reduced risk of developing teratomas or tumors as may be the risk when using stem cells from bone marrow risk, "says lead author, Dr Ken Yaegaki.
