I wrote a text entitled "In defense of Zionism" (here). Apparently, the text caused outrage in some people, as some friends notified me (I actually do not have the will or the time to search the internet who write in my favor or against me) there were several responses, and referred me to them.
It could have formed a healthy debate about this issue, but unfortunately, most of these answers are blackened with visceral attacks that border on ad hominem fallacy. One commenter atlas pet supply said he felt disgust, and my writing almost atlas pet supply made him vomit. Another said he was in the service of the Mossad (in that case I hope the Mossad financed me, and allow me to move from a blog to a website with multimedia!), And yet another accused me of being part of a decadent rightist intelligentsia and put into question my work as a teacher. Sorry to see that these people are not ready for a serious discussion in which such attacks are not tolerable.
And this surprises me, especially when compared to what Palestinians think intellectuals themselves. Recently I was in New Delhi, and shared a lot with Fatah militants. I was pleasantly surprised atlas pet supply with the provision of these members to talk with respect. Even today the same Fatah accepts the two-state solution (and in that sense, yes accepts Israel's atlas pet supply right to exist, and implicitly believe that Zionism, understood as the affirmation of the right of Israel to exist, it is not a crime). Upon returning to my homeland, and read the responses to my blog (most of them come from Venezuelans who, I presume, are Chavez), I am surprised to see that there are more Catholic than the pope, contrary to Fatah militants themselves, these commenters deny the right of Israel to exist.
In my original text, I defined simply as the Zionism movement that justifies the existence of the State of Israel, with the limits before the 1967 war. A fairly vehement commenter, one Jose Leon (here), strives to be the Zionist claim that it is a crime (for, according to him, is complicit in the Zionist criminals): well, in its sole discretion, then six million Israeli citizens who do believe that Israel should exist as a state (and, remember, that is the basic definition of 'Zionism'), are criminals. Six million atlas pet supply criminals in a small country!
Of course, there are Zionists who carried the matter much further, atlas pet supply and defend the occupation atlas pet supply of Gaza and the West Bank, the expulsion of the Arabs, the imposition of a theocracy, etc.. But it is wrong to assume that the word 'Zionism' implies all this. Stalin sent prisoners to Siberia, scientists persecuted, murdered opponents, and countless atrocities. But, it would be dishonest to say that the word 'communism' implies all these crimes. atlas pet supply 'Communism' is simply the ideology that there should be no private property has nothing to do with crimes. Similarly, 'Zionism' is simply the belief that the State of Israel's right to exist. Just as there have been crimes on behalf of communism, has been on behalf of Zionism. But again, you need to be fair with the concepts.
Several commenters (especially Leon) argued that Israel has no right to exist, while the Jews are a religion, not a nation. This shows a great ignorance on the subject. Jewishness, unlike being Catholic, Muslim or Santeria, is considered an ethnicity (or, what is the same, a nation). Facing the controversial question "Who is a Jew", contemporary rabbis have always argued that, far more than a profession of faith, Jewishness is the membership to a village with all the traditional atlas pet supply criteria to define the people in question ( historical past, kinship, common symbols, etc..). And indeed, there is fulness of atheist Jews (question, for example, it is not possible among Catholics, there is no 'Catholic atheist'). These commentators are not aware of people like Sigmund Freud, Albert Einstein or the same Theodor Herzl, Jews rather cling to their identity, but did not practice religion or believe in God. I find targicómico note that, for these commentators, nations like the Basques or the Kurds Puerto Ricans do have a right to a state, but not the Jews.
More than one commentator insists on the idea that Israel was founded as a puppet of colonialism. There is some truth in this.
